I’ve been a little behind in posts recently, but just to put up something, here’s a few tidbits:

Cats and pizza. ’nuff said. This photo captures the essence of my blog in one shot.
A pizza delivery guy in NYC kicked the asses of would-be pizza thieves. The robbers/assholes demanded the pizzas, and hero Assami Semde put down the pizzas and put the beatdown on the robbers. Then he delivered the pizzas. Pizza Girl, consider the bar raised.
Slice reviews Homeslice. The post can be summed up as “if you happen to have the bad luck to find yourself outside of NYC, Homeslice is good enough to tide you over”.

13 things your pizza delivery guy won’t tell you. Funny. Best one: “I’d prefer that you have a shirt on (and definitely some pants).”
8 things someone learned from delivering pizza in high school. Funnier. Best one: “stoners are more generous than the wealthy.”
17 more things your pizza guy won’t tell you. None of these are very funny.
4-year-old held by pizza delivery guy through gate as quasi-ransom for payment. It was an hour late, expect the folks who ordered the pizza to be cranky. Don’t grab their kids though, that’s creepy/illegal.
Prank pulled on noob pizza delivery kid. He thinks he’s getting wrapped up in some crazy mafia deal. The video’s like 5 minutes long, but worth it (if you have lots of time to devote to pizza, like your dear author).

Record the winning tune for Gatti’s pizza chain to win a free year of Gatti’s pizza, $10k cash and a website for your band. While you might appear to be selling your artistic integrity for franchise-chain pizza, you will win lots of said pizza, thus making you a no-longer-starving artist. Apparently the chain is based here in Austin, and most of the jingles so far are from Austin musicians. If for nothing else, site worth going to for the flash image on the homepage of a pizza on a turntable. Their emoticon looks suspiciously like mine, but I’ll let it slide.
Pizza eating contest at Emo’s postponed to August 9. It was supposed to be last Saturday, with a $400 prize and a $10 admission that went to charity. Follow @emosaustin for details as they emerge.

People in Pizza Costumes Becoming Pizzas. My favorite is #5.
Minnesota pizzeria holds pizza eating contest, two guys eat 30″ pizza in 30 minutes. These guys could easily take down that guy who wins the Homeslice pizza eating contest.
The History Of Pizza – according to Fox News. I like how the two ads that pop up are for teeth whitening and the “sexy stomach rule”.
Carb and calorie-laden pizza binge helps backpacker survive before being lost for 12 days in the Australian outback. Pizza was more useful to this guy than a sexy stomach.

Stories by the Slice: Asian-themed pizza edition – July 11

Korean pizza trend? Cone pizza. My Korean is a little rusty, so I can’t really read the ingredients, but the various combos look intriguing. I wonder if it’s a solid hunk of cheese and toppings surrounded by crust, or if the crust is spiraled through? Apparently cone pizza has already hit the US and Italy, but I’ve never heard of it before. It looks gross and entirely worth trying.
In more Asian-themed pizza news: Chinese pizza! With either General Tso’s, Sesame Garlic, Hoisin BBQ or Orange Ginger as the sauces in place of marinara. It’s in Philly. Will have to add this to the list of things to do if I ever have to go to Philly again.
Going with the theme of the day, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the awesomeness of Zante’s Indian Pizza in SF. I used to live a few blocks away from Zante’s in Bernal Heights, and when folks ask me if I miss anything about San Francisco, Zante’s is always first on the list. Pizza Hut not dropping “Pizza” from name. Rumors abounded last week that Pizza Hut would rebrand itself as “The Hut”. They’re false. It’s weird, I can’t believe the Internet would be rife with inaccuracies and pass rumors off as fact. Sorry, Jabba fans.
Owner of Seattle pizza place pleads guilty to smuggling in over a ton of pot, mostly by helicopter. That is a massive, airborne attack of the munchies, unlike the world has ever seen. Cheech and Chong humbly bow before you, O Mighty “Oregano” Importer.
Pizza delivery guy who foiled a rape attempt (see the last edition of Stories By The Slice) is arrested on domestic violence charges. Well, there goes that feel good story.

Homeslice wins best pizza in Austin, 17th best restaurant overall. Hell to the yeah! Glad the Austin Chronicle voters have some taste.
Pizza delivery guy leads cops to rape victim in Tennessee. I hope that guy gets ridiculous tips for life.
Heroin addict offered lifetime of free pizza to burn down pizzeria. While a year is shorter than a life, it seems a tad easier to simply stand with your hand on an eggplant sub for a few hours rather than committing a felony. But maybe heroin was on the pizza, it might be more addictive than the usual Homeslice toppings.
